Fueling Passion UBRFH Junior Hockey Pathway
In 2004, a group of club members took the initiative to start the junior field hockey program. The forefront runner of this cause was Tejinder Singh. With the help of the whole club, especially Gurrinder Singh Sandhu, Balbir Singh Panesar, and Harcharan Singh Sivia, the junior program was developed. After media advertisement of this fresh program available in the South Fraser region, registration flourished.
Heavy torrential rain poured on the first day of training; we were lucky to get 6 players out on the field (Sukh Panesar, Balraj Panesar, Sunny Aujla, Kabir Aujla, Surjan Sandhu, and Tarjan Sandhu). The juniors (under 12) started their training at Cloverdale Athletic Park, and within a week, the team grew to a handsome team of fourteen.
During the years, many boys came through the junior ranks in different age groups to play for the United Brother’s Field Hockey Club. Some went on to play for their respective province of British Columbia, and quite a number of players made it to the national squad. We are proud of Sukh Panesar, Tony Sidhu, Sunny Dhindsa, Jay Sivia, Harmann Grewal, Harshan Grewal, Sunny Aujla, and Japreet Rai for this accomplishment.
Our junior club membership has increased to close to three digits. We have two teams of under twelve, and one team each of under-14, under-16 and under-18. In other words, United Brothers has opened its doors to everybody from the age of eight years and up. Due to the hard work and time put into the junior program, it’s evident that it’s paying off. Over the years, our juniors have had the tradition of coming home with their heads up,demonstrating an enriched hockey education and placement in the top three standings, whether it is club championships or the Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League.
United Brothers holds an extraordinary program for any age to improve their skills, from the basics to a high level of play. Coaches of elite levels have developed a program to flourish this sport to a higher standard. These coaching programs are running under the auspicious authority of Mr. . Shiv Jagdey (former Canada and US national coach).
United Brothers was established to provide an environment for athletes who want to improve their field hockey skills. A variety of levels of training are offered to accommodate the different skill levels of the individual players. Members of this club train twice a week at the Tamanawiss water based turf of Tamanawis Secondary School, 12600 66 Ave., Surrey, B.C. You can enter from 126 streets and 64th Avenue in Surrey, BC.
