The United Brothers Field Hockey Club in Surrey, British Columbia, was established in 1987. The origin of this club lies in the enthusiast assemblage of young sportsmen: Onkar Singh Powar, Bahadur Singh Sandhu, Sukhdev Singh Kalar, Inderjit Singh Chohan, Jagmohan Singh Kalar, Pritpal Singh Sanghera, Balraj Singh Bassi, Sukhwinder Singh Dhesi, Gurmit Singh Hayer, Gary Grewal, Charan Singh Sandhu, Nachatar Singh Dhaliwal, Kuljeet Singh Garcha, Daljeet Singh Garcha, Kulwant Singh Johal, and the list goes on. The plant sown by these people has developed into a sizable tree.

This club not only plays in Vancouver Field Hockey, considered one of the best leagues on the American continent, but has also, to date, toured many countries like England, India, and the United States and brought glory to the club and Surrey community by winning most of the tournaments. UBR is not only one of the best teams in this league, but this club has the privilege of fielding players from every corner of the world. So far, a lot of Canadian Olympians, Indian Olympians, and other international players of elite quality have played or are still playing for this club; not only the ex-players of prominent Indian clubs like Punjab Police, JCT, and Border Security Force are other assets of this club.

UBR holds an extraordinary program for kids of any age to improve or just to start at the very basic level of this sport. The coaches of elite level are doing their level best to flourish this sport to a higher standard. These coaching programs are running under the auspicious authority of Mr. Shiv Jagdey (ex-Canada and US national coach).

UBR was established to provide an environment for athletes who want to improve their field hockey. A variety of levels of training are offered to accommodate the different skill levels of the individual players. Members of this club train twice a week at Tamanawiss Fields, situated at 126 Street on 64th Avenue in Surrey, BC. Training sessions are one to two hours each. In addition to the national-level tournaments, the UBR participates in several tournaments to offer the athlete year-round, wide-ranging training and experience. These playing opportunities allow club members to compete with the most excellent field hockey players in the country. This cream-of-the-crop level of training for both the individual and team will better prepare members to advance their personal skills.

UBR provides an environment that boosts a player’s chances for perfection. We understand that this is only a part of the whole person; however, since our teams are limited in number, we expect 100% commitment to all practices, conditioning sessions, and tournaments. Of course, there is a little financial levy to accommodate the financial needs of the club. All fees must be paid in full prior to the first practice.
